Cold Brook Farm 2025 Fall Honey – Set of 4

$72.00

Over the Summer, despite the drought, we were blessed with reasonably good nectar flow due to the abundance of native wildflowers on our Farm and over 50 acres of Buckwheat flowers on adjacent fields managed organically / regeneratively by us, producing a set of highly individual and stunningly complex honeys that offer a truly unique tasting experience.

Description

Over the Summer, despite the drought, we were blessed with reasonably good nectar flow due to the abundance of native wildflowers on our Farm and over 50 acres of Buckwheat flowers on adjacent fields managed organically / regeneratively by us.

Because we are intent on creating a balanced ecosystem here on the Farm and want our native bees and pollinators to have abundant food sources (European Honeybees are not native and compete for nectar), we maintain just five bee hives. We manage them organically and humanely, leaving most of the honey produced in the hives. In fact, for our Fall 2025 honey we opted to take honey from just four hives and, an extremely limited amount at that!

Due to both its scarcity and how different the honey from each hive looks and tastes we bottle each hive’s honey separately. This is both more labor intensive and expensive, but we believe that it’s well worth it.  Although our five hives all sit within several feet of one another (in a gorgeous native wildflower meadow), because honeybees are highly territorial and the bees from each hive forage in different places and at different times of day, the resulting honeys are all different.

The honey from three hives are heavily dominated by Buckwheat flowers (and are labeled accordingly) and one hive seemed to shun the vast acreage of Buckwheat available to them instead focusing their foraging on native wildflowers.
